Man charged with fatal shooting at Putnam County business found competent to stand trial
PUTNAM COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A Lima man charged with a fatal shooting at a Putnam County trucking company has been found competent to stand trial. 26-year-old Konner Dunklee pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity on the charges of aggravated murder, murder, attempting to commit murder, felonious assault, and assault. After the mental evaluation, he can stand trial on those charges, but his lawyers are looking for a second evaluation.

Piqua Commission hears ordinance to change meeting rules
PIQUA — The Piqua City Commission introduced an ordinance to adopt new rules for future commission meetings during on Tuesday, July 16. Some of the new updated rules for meetings would include: not continuing meetings after 9 p.m.; ensuring all comments are related to city business or activities; and instituting a public comment request card which will be monitored throughout public comment sessions.
Christmas in July fundraiser planned to help annual Children's Hometown Holiday
WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - The Children's Hometown Holiday is gearing up for another year of helping kids have a memorable holiday, but they are looking for some help. Organizers of the event say it takes around $35,000 each year to put it on. So they are holding their first-ever "Christmas in July" event next Wednesday at the Five Vine Winery just outside of Wapakoneta to help with their costs. The Children's Hometown Holiday is the first full weekend in December and is filled with events and activities at no cost to anyone who attends. But after 18 years, the costs and the number of kids continue to grow.

Students in Lima's GenNext program meet with Lima firefighters and explore lifesaving careers
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Several local students received a close-up look at life-saving careers on Wednesday. As part of the City of Lima's GenNext program, students met with Mayor Shareeta Smith and the Lima Fire Department at the Bradfield Community Center to learn more about jobs in public safety. Students checked out a Lima fire truck and were shown how firefighters and EMTs perform life-saving tasks in emergencies.
