St. Mary’s Community Pool working to beat the heat

ELK COUNTY (WTAJ) — Heat has been the talk throughout the week and St. Mary’s Community Pool offered community members a chance to beat the heat.

They hosted a free swim on Friday, June 21. Residents broke out their swimsuits, pool floaties and goggles in an attempt to cool down while still having fun.

“So this is free swim Friday courtesy of Straub insurance here in St. Marys. So from noon to 4, anyone can come and swim for free thanks to Straub Insurance,” Aquatic Director, Traci Meeker said.

The pool was packed all week due to the heat wave.

“This week has been fantastic. We beat our record on Tuesday so we are now at 493 patrons, visitors and members. I’m hoping to beat the record again this week or next week,” Meeker said.

Extra lifeguards were brought in to work this week, to ensure the safety of swimmers with such a big crowd.
