ST. MARYS (WTAJ) — Elk County Catholic’s 60-year history of playing football as a standalone school appears to be coming to an end. ECCHS is looking to co-op with St. Marys this fall.

The move is still awaiting approval from District 9 and the PIAA.

Elk County Catholic’s athletic director Aaron Straub said in a radio interview with The River 98.9 Tuesday that low player turnout is forcing the school’s hand.

The two already have co-ops in other sports, including wrestling. Any approved change would keep St. Marys in class 3A according to Flying Dutchman head coach Chris Dworek.
