Season in review: Perry Central baseball
LEOPOLD — Perry Central baseball this season finished the year with a record of 9-13 after winning the sectional championship in 2023. The Commodores first two games of the regular season started with losses to South Central and South Spencer before they won their first game of the year against Corydon Central (11-7). Five players for Perry Central finished with multiple hits including Travis Kellems, Corbin Haughee, Aiden Labhart, Cohen Edwards and Luke Zellers. Kellems and Ethan Ball pitched for Perry Central.
Season in review: Tell City baseball
TELL CITY — The Tell City baseball team finished 11-13 overall with the wins coming towards the later parts of the season. Their first eight games of the year resulted in losses to Hancock County, Heritage Hills, North Posey, Perry Central, Forest Park, South Spencer, Evansville North, and Princeton. But, they responded with three wins in a row against Washington, Northeast Dubois, and Cannelton.
Music fest livens city streets
If there is one thing the city of Cloverport seems to have mastered, that is knowing how to put on a festival. This past Saturday, July 6, the streets of Cloverport came to life as people from all over the community gathered for the River Jam music festival. The gathering of vendors, artists, and spectators made for an impressive night out on the town in Breckinridge County.

Ms. Casey; a.k.a. Sister Casey. She passed on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the age of 85 at her family home in Estate Sion Hill, Christiansted, St. Croix. Gwennie T. Casey was born on June 5, 1939 and raised on the beautiful mountainous Caribbean Island nation of Dominica, BWI that is well known for its natural hot springs and tropical rainforests.

Dorothy Strobel
DALE — Dorothy A. Strobel, age 85, of Dale, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Dale, Indiana. She was born January 21, 1939, in New Boston to Hubert and Elsie (Friedel) Brinksneader; and married James A Strobel on June 24, 1961 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Together, Dorothy and James traveled to 48 different states. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James A Strobel, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and brother, Ronald Brinksneader.

$700,000 given to local youth apprenticeship programs
INDIANAPOLIS — Ascend Indiana is awarding four grants to help Indiana youth get on-the-job training. The grants are going to the Indiana Youth Apprenticeship Accelerator, including the West Central Indiana Career and Technical Education Center in Crawfordsville, Eastern Indiana Works in Muncie, the Southern Indiana Education Center in Jasper and Southern Indiana Works in New Albany.
