8/1/24 Oshkosh Man Sentenced on Drunken Driving Homicide Charges
A 57-year-old Oshkosh man has been sentenced on charges of drunken driving homicide for a Fond du Lac County accident in January of 2023 that killed a 58-year-old Waukesha man and seriously injured his 62-year-old wife. Judge Tricia Walker Wednesday sentenced Brian Sippel to 28 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision following an emotional three-hour hearing. Charges stemmed from a January 14th, 2023, accident on Highway 151 above Interstate 41 near the on ramp to I-41. Sippel’s pickup truck was traveling at highway speeds as it approached stop lights and struck two vehicles from behind that were stopped for the lights. The accident killed Mike Hoffman and seriously injured his wife Julie. District Attorney Eric Toney says Sippel’s blood alcohol content was .167 or more than twice the legal limit for intoxication. A Go Fund Me account has been created to help Mike Hoffman’s wife Julie and his son Caleb with college, medical expenses and day-to-day expenses.
