Ainsley Slade named to Upper Iowa’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List
FAYETTE – Upper Iowa University is pleased to announce the Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester. To be honored, the undergraduate must have earned a minimum 3.50 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student. Among those named to the Dean’s List was Ainsley Slade, a Biology major from Reinbeck.

WAUKON — Charles City rallied for 5 runs in the top of the 12th inning to finally defeat a stubborn Waukon Indians team 15-10 in the first game of Wednesday’s rescheduled Northeast Iowa Conference softball doubleheader, then completed the sweep with a 19-4 victory called after six innings in the second game.

It’s time to celebrate Clermont’s first 175 years
CLERMONT — Fayette County’s historic Brick City will celebrate its 175th anniversary Friday, July 5 – Sunday, July 7. The commemorative event begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday with a showing of the movie, “The Straight Story” at the Clermont Public Library. The movie includes film footage shot in West Union and Clermont. Production of the film took place in Clermont from Oct. 6-19, 1998.

Crawford County Crime Stoppers asking for assistance with Hit and Run Accident in Wauzeka
On Thursday, June 20th, 2024, at approximately 1:24 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hit-and-run crash in the Village of Wauzeka. An investigation determined that a John Deere tractor sideswiped a semi pulling a trailer and the operator of the John Deere tractor left the crash scene. The Sheriff’s Office is attempting to identify the owner and/or operator of the John Deere tractor, review the attached picture.

Midwest Veterans of America to honor area veterans at Birth of America event Sunday
Midwest Veterans of America will be hosting a Fourth of July event to celebrate the Birth of America Sunday, July 7 at the Sweeney Shelter near the Allamakee County Freedom Rock in the Waukon City Park. The free event will begin at 11 a.m. and will honor 41 area Veterans with a cook-out meal followed by an awards presentation that will begin at 1 p.m.

Earl W. Crary, 66, of Garnavillo passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 10 year battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Friday, July 5, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo where a memorial service will commence at 1 p.m. Pastor Paul Losik will officiate.
Bellevue-Marquette defeats EV; wins 14-inning thriller over North Linn
On Thursday June 27 the Marquette Defenders hit the road to take on the Easton Valley Riverhawks and came home with an 8-1 victory. Cal Bonifas started on the mound for Marquette and went six strong innings allowing only two hits and one run. Lefty Louis Gonner came in from the pen to close things out. Gonner and Aiden Clausen each collected two hits for Marquette. Clausen and Troy Gibson knocked in two runs apiece for the Defenders who once again played errorless ball in the field. With the victory Marquette became Tri-Rivers East Conference Champions.

Upper Iowa University (UIU) announced today that it has earned the 2024-2025 Military Friendly® School designation. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2024-2025 survey with 537 earning special awards for going above the standard.
