Names Released in Meade County Fatal Crash
STURGIS — An 82-year-old man died July 4 from injuries sustained in a two vehicle crash July 1 near Sturgis. According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, preliminary information indicates John J. Lundin, 82, the driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling eastbound on S.D. Highway 34 near mile marker 38 at 10:10 a.m. At the same time, Jerry L. Seaman, 72, the driver of a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500, was traveling westbound on S.D. Highway 34. While initiating a left-hand turn into a gas station, Lundin turned in front of the Dodge Ram and the vehicles collided head-on.

Storms Clearing Out Tonight, More Isolated Storms Possible Through the Weekend
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Overnight tonight we will see those 50s takeover and even a few spots dropping into the 40s. Mostly clear skies are expected with perfect fireworks weather! Tomorrow, isolated storms form once again as we head into the afternoon, but mostly sunny skies are going to dominate where we aren’t seeing those showers. High temperatures for Friday are likely going to get into the 70s and 80s across the area. Let’s take a look at futurecast. Future cast shows clear skies tonight. and then some isolated storms by the time we’re getting to tomorrow afternoon. Storms will be hit or miss throughout the day. Heading into the weekend, another chance for some isolated storms is in the forecast for Saturday. By Sunday we start to dry out in the morning, but more storm chances are possible in the afternoon. Tonight, we will likely see temperatures drop into the 40s and 50s across the area, but perfect firework weather is expected with mostly clear skies. Heading into the day tomorrow, we will likely see temperatures make it back into the 70s across all of KOTA Territory. Isolated storms are possible as we head into the afternoon but will be hit or miss throughout that time frame. If you aren’t seeing the storms, then mostly sunny skies will dominate. The next three days in Gillette, Sheridan, Deadwood and Spearfish are likely to see a bit of a break from the rain and storms. Rapid City over the next seven days go through a pattern shift. Storms are possible through Sunday, but we dry out starting out our next work week on Monday. With those dryer conditions, we will likely see temperatures begin to rise into the 80s and eventually 90s by the end of next week.
Four candidates apply for Sturgis Ward 3 seat
STURGIS — Four Sturgis residents have applied for consideration for appointment to the Ward 3 city council seat. The seat was vacated when former Ward 3 Councilman Preston Williams resigned from the position. Williams had 11 months left in his term. He resigned before the city council had finalized an ordinance that would allow for a special election to fill the seat. Therefore, according to state law, the council must appoint a replacement.
