Private hunting lodge in Spearfish attracts visitors from around the globe
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Pheasants, quail, and elk. South Dakota is a hot spot for hunting enthusiasts with a popular private hunting lodge in Spearfish being no exception. High Prairie Lodge and Outfitters has been around for 35 years and continues to be a mainstay for people looking to satisfy their hunting cravings.

For the second year in a row Dusty and Brooke Formanek are running the fireworks stand for the community members near and far. "The company that we use is Borderline Fireworks out of New Mexico," said Brooke. Borderline Fireworks also services and supplies three other stands in South Dakota; Ft. Pierre, Sturgis, and Whitewood. They acquired the four-stand territory over the winter from the New Underwood based company who had been supplying Philip with fireworks for about 20 years.

STURGIS — For nearly a decade and a half into its existence, the final weekend of June brings in plenty of elite runners ready to traverse the trails within the Black Hills. Taking place on June 28 and June 29, the 14th annual Black Hills 100 ultramarathon saw a vast multitude of harriers descend upon Sturgis City Park and trek through a 16,000 feet elevation gain. The race was divided into several race distances of 50 miles, 50 kilometers and 30 kilometers.
State doing tree inventory in Sturgis
STURGIS — The South Dakota Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources Forest Division will be in Sturgis through July conducting a tree inventory. Sturgis Public Works Director Rick Bush said that the tree inventory will mainly take place in street rights-of-way.
