Actor Debra Christofferson returns to Spearfish

She's known for her roles on "NYPD Blue" and "9-1-1." Her film credits include 1997's dark comedy slapstick "Mousehunt"(with Nathan Lane). She's appeared on "The X Files," "Grey's Anatomy," "NCIS," and "American Horror Story."

Third Habitat partner family home dedicated Wednesday
STURGIS, S.D. – Samantha is the third Habitat partner family to move into her home in Sturgis in the past year. Her home dedication is on June 26 at 6pm. Samantha, a longtime resident of Sturgis, has been an employee of Black Hills Special Services for over a decade. Samantha and her sister, Sabrina (who lives right around the corner and is also employed at Black Hills Special Services), were both approved for the Homeownership program and will be close neighbors. Samantha’s direct neighbor, Richard, also celebrated his home dedication this month.
Spearfish drops twin bill to Pierre
PIERRE, S.D. – In legion ball yesterday, Spearfish Post 164 dropped a pair of games to Pierre. Pierre took game one from Spearfish by the score of 11-1 and shut out the Spartans in game two by the score of 11-0. Both games ended early via the mercy rule.
Elizabeth “Betty” Louise Bourk
Elizabeth “Betty” Louise Bourk was born on September 14th, 1945 in Wall, South Dakota to Donald Pascoe and Anna Donner. She was the fifth of six children. Betty grew up on a little farm North of Wall. In her high school years, she and her sister Lila were sent to Lodi, California to live with their aunts, Bonnie and Orma. She Graduated from Lodi High in 1962.
Eights Dominate Spearfish to Doubleheader Sweep
Pierre would score a total of 22 runs on 24 hits in two games winning 11-1 and 11-0 over Spearfish at home on Wednesday. Charlie Simpson would have an RBI double in the first to get the Eights off and running as Carter Schiefelbein would return to the lineup going 2-4 in game one with three RBIs making it 2-0 in the second and George Stalley adding an RBI in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Pierre added three runs in the fourth with Trevor Rounds also returning to the lineup going 2-2 in game one with two RBIs. Everybody in the Post 8 lineup would record a hit with Dawson Getz going 4-4 as Pierre scored five runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to win it 11-1 in six innings. Nolan Petersen would go 3-4 with the game ending RBI hit as the Eights pounded out 17. Miles Doyle would get the run support to go four innings for the win giving up two hits, a run on three walks and six punch outs. Rounds pitched the final two innings without allowing a base runner.

Bluegrass and barbecue: Family-friendly festival starts Friday
A weekend of great music and good food is in store at the Black Hills Bluegrass and BBQ Festival. The family-friendly festival will be Friday, June 28, Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, at Elk Creek Resort near Piedmont. Tickets at the gate are $25 for a single show, $45 for all day Saturday, and $60 for the entire weekend. Admission on June 30 is a free-will offering. Children younger than 12 will be admitted to all festival events free of charge.

City of Sturgis opens new downhill bike trail
The City of Sturgis and Black Hills Trails have collaborated on a downhill biking trail that is now open for use. The Downhill Optimized Bike Park, aka Flow Trail, is located on the city’s Barry Stadium property near the Fort Meade softball fields east of Sturgis. It is similar in nature to the project that Rapid City just approved on M-Hill — Thunderdog Trail.
Pierre roughs up Spearfish Post 164
PIERRE — It was a tough pair of outings for Spearfish Post 164, as they dropped a doubleheader against Pierre Post 8 on Wednesday at Hyde Stadium. Spearfish couldn't get much going, coming up short in the first game by way of an 11-1 decision in six innings before falling by a final score of 11-0 within five innings in the nightcap.

SPEARFISH — The Spearfish School District recently received a state Department of Education grant to help purchase equipment for its new career and technical education (CTE) center. The grant was part of a total of 36 grants awarded statewide totaling $6.4 million.
