Community invited to paint Greenwood mural
The community is invited to paint the next Color the County mural in Greenwood Saturday. The painting day is a community event encouraging the public to come together and create a mural designed by artist Mandy Freshour. The mural is part of the Color the County program, through the Johnson County Community Foundation. The program has brought 12 murals to Johnson County since 2016.

The Columbus City Council has moved forward a request for annexation of property that includes a number of parcels owned by those who are opposed to the annexation. The council passed the first reading of an ordinance on the matter 4-3, with several members expressing discomfort about how the annexation came together and others identifying the proposed annexation area as one of the few that would allow for continued city growth.
Officer Injured in Struggle with DUI Suspect in North Vernon
NORTH VERNON, Ind. – On Thursday, July 18, at 8:15 PM, Officer Nathan Vogel from the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) stopped a white Chrysler 300 for speeding on the 800 block of S State St. The driver, Andy L. C. Dale Waltz
C. Dale Waltz, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on July 17, 2024 at his home in Trafalgar with his family by his side. Dale was born January 13, 1931 at Atterbury, to his parents, the late James Leslie and Lena (Coy) Waltz. He was a 1949 graduate of Trafalgar High School and went on to serve as a Corporal with the 370th Engineer Company of the United States Army during the Korean War. Dale was honorably discharged on May 21, 1953 after returning from Baumholder, Germany. He retired in 1991 from Design Printing in Indianapolis where he worked as a Bindery Man. Prior to that, Dale held the same position at Progressive Printing in Indianapolis and Rexham Printing in Edinburgh. After retirement he worked for G R Smith &Son Contracting in Trafalgar. Dale also worked on his family farm raising cattle, pigs, chickens, corn and soybeans.
Charles L. Wood
Charles L. Wood, 87 of Franklin and formerly of Brooksville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 with his four daughters by his side. He was born on August 14, 1936 in Sonora, Kentucky to Paul L. and Maggie L. (Coomer) Wood. He married Patricia (Azzarella) Wood. She survives. He is also survived by his four daughters, Deborah Beck (Lynn), Pam Prosser (Brent), Leslie Wood and Cheryl Moran (Kevin); ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and brother, Robert Wood (Sue); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents; brothers, George Wood, Larry Wood and Carl Wood; and his first wife, Ann (Sanders) Wood.
