The Wild and restricted free agent defenseman Declan Chisholm have agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract, according to The Athletic’s Michael Russo.

The Wild are now projected to have $1.5 million in cap space entering the season unless there are significant changes, according to Russo.

Chisholm, 24, was claimed by the Wild last season after being waived by the Winnipeg Jets after playing in just two games while on a two-way contract.

Chisholm saw more action with the Wild, playing in 29 games and producing eight points (3 goals, 5 assists).

Chisholm has nine points overall (3 goals, 6 assists) in 33 career NHL games.

Chisholm had 43 points (5 goals, 38 assists) in the AHL in the Jets system the year prior and is a player who can hold his own on the Wild’s third pairing.

Chisholm will have the opportunity to become a mainstay on the Wild’s blue line with him sticking around St. Paul another year.
