WISE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a shooting in St. Paul left one person seriously injured.

Deputies found a shooting had occurred when they arrived.

Authorities said a person who was the focus of a child sex crime investigation entered a home where he had been temporarily banned from entering.

When a family member attempted to escort the person off the property, an “altercation” ensued and two shots were fired.

One of the people involved was flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the sheriff’s office reported.

“Wise and Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office investigators together processed the scene and interviewed witnesses,” the release states. “At the conclusion of the interviews, Sheriff Grant Kilgore and Commonwealth’s Attorney Brett Hall agreed that no charges should be taken at this time in reference to the shooting. However, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is still actively investigating this incident.”

According to the release, authorities charged Loren Frost of St. Paul with two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, two counts of sodomy, and one count of aggravated sexual battery.
