    St. Peter U18/19 girls soccer team claims MYSA State Championship

    After a busy summer of soccer action, the St. Peter U18/19 girls team traveled to the campus of St. Benedict College between July 11-14 to compete in the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association State tournament. After going 2-0-1 in pool play and outscoring their opponents 15-4, St. Peter qualified for the title match against the Mississippi Valley Storm team team out of La Crescent, ultimately earning the title via a 2-1 victory.

    The St. Peter team was led by head coach William Bennet and assistant coach Jen Letts with 16 girls contributing to the team’s state title. The team consisted of Tania Aguilar Cruz, Gretta Baker, Katherine Callahan, Lilly Chambers, Courtney Domras, June Elias, Vivian Hendrickson, Adeline Letts, Canden Madden, Samantha Madden, Karli Miller, Madison Petersen, Liliana Prunty, Nevaeh Rezmerski, Morgan Rodgers, Kylee Wendroth and Paige Winkelmann.

    The team began pool play against Central Minnesota’s 18U team and put on a dominant performance, winning 10-1, before securing a 2-2 draw against Benninghoff. In the final pool play game, St. Peter defeated Central Minnesota’s 19U squad 3-1 to secure a spot in the championship game.
