Run for Fun: Getting ready for Fourth of July races

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — In this week’s episode of Run for Fun, we chat with Ryan Jordan. He and his brother, Keith, are behind the popular St. Pete Run Fest race event.

This week, Jordan will host the 4-mile St. Pete Pier Run on the Fourth of July. He discusses the importance of Independence Day races and what people can expect when they lace up that morning.

He also discusses how the brothers started Run Fest as a way to have a race weekend based in St. Petersburg. Several national race series have come and gone in downtown St. Pete in recent years, but the Jordan brothers wanted to make sure there would be a race that happened each year.

Jordan calls the race weekend a Passion Project. He created race courses that show off the beautiful parts of St. Petersburg, and he is proud of how the community has rallied around the race. The race also gives back to the community by donating money to the St. Pete Free Clinic to provide money for meals.

St. Pete Run Fest takes place in November and offers a 5K, 10K, and half marathon. Runners can also run multiple of these races. The Jordan brothers push the “fun” part of running. From the course itself to the entertainment along the route, they want the runners to enjoy the race and cross the finish line with a smile.
