SECOND UPDATE: Court documents now say Tyron Spence-Bey pleaded guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm by a dangerous felon. Spence-Bey was sentenced to ten years on the manslaughter charge and three years on the possession charge. The sentences will run back-to-back for a total of 13 years.
I-44 Exit 140 Ramps closing next week
Local crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to close two ramps on Interstate 44 east of Lebanon next week for routine maintenance. Both off-ramps from I-44 at Exit 140 (Route T) will be closed, but on different days. On Monday, July 22, the off-ramp from eastbound I-44 will close. Then, on Tuesday, July 23, the off-ramp from westbound I-44 will close. Both days the closures will not begin until 9 a.m. and the ramps should reopen by 3 p.m. Motorists should use an alternate route during the closures.

County Clerk discusses election processes and security at last Thursday’s Rotary meeting
Laclede County Clerk Linda Cansler discussed Security and processes planned for the August primary election at Thursday’s Lebanon Rotary Club luncheon. “When we have election judges out there, there are a lot of questions that get asked of them,” Cansler said. “These are the things I’m trying to share with you, because when you know them, you can share them with others.” Absentee ballots, Cansler explained, are for those unable to appear on election day. LHS students compete at FBLA National Leadership Conference
Ethan Domenech, Trevor Richards, Sadie Hutsell, and adviser Mrs. Stacie Hutsell from Licking R-8 High School tested and participated in events at the Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. (FBLA) National Leadership Conference (NLC). Missouri competitors were required to stay in the Hilton Orlando and participated in events held in the West Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center. The event, held in Orlando, Florida, from June 24 to July 2, attracted more than 18,000 middle school, high school, and college students, educators, and volunteers from across the country. The NLC provides education, competition and networking opportunities centered on business.
