Fort Leonard Wood 399th Army Band slated to inactivate
As part of the Army’s force restructure, the 399th Army Band, located at Fort Leonard Wood, is slated to inactivate by Oct. 14. Discussions surrounding the band’s potential inactivation have been ongoing for several months, and the final decision from the Army was received July 3. Planning for this change is underway and updates will be provided on the band’s ability to support command and community events between now and October.
Grover Warren Mitchell (October 17, 1939 - July 12, 2024)
Warren “Zeke” Mitchell, age 84, of Brumley, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 17, 1939, son of the late Donald and Ruby (Richmond) Mitchell. On September 28, 1973, Warren was united in marriage to Alice Elaine Cochran, who survives at their home.
Central Illinois Navy veteran running to help homeless vets
NORMAL — Last July, Zach Kibler was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and started college at Illinois State University, where he is studying marketing. The 25-year-old Tuscola native was succeeding in his classwork, but Kibler, whose two brothers are also veterans, felt unfulfilled — like he needed a purpose, he said.
GIRLS SOCCER: Six Lady Dogs named All-Ozark Conference
Six members of the Rolla High School girls’ soccer team were selected to the final All-Ozark Conference Team, it was recently announced. Lady Bulldogs named to the All-OC squad were senior midfielder Ava Burnett and junior forward Olivia Young to the first team; senior defender Addi Bolich and junior defender Kate Arnold to the second team, and junior forwards McKenna Moore and Apryl Decker honorable mention.
Missouri S&T professor elected Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers
Dr. Grace Yan, a Missouri S&T faculty member with expertise in structural engineering, was recently elected a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. “This recognition represents a significant milestone in my career, and I am grateful to be counted among the distinguished individuals who have received this honor,” Yan says. “Being named an ASCE Fellow is special to me because it acknowledges not only my technical contributions but also my dedication to leadership, mentorship and service within the civil engineering profession.”
Missouri Angler Cole Breeden Wins MLF Toyota Series at Grand Lake
GROVE, Okla. (April 14, 2024) – After taking over the lead on Day 2, pro Cole Breeden of Lebanon, Missouri, closed out the win in style with 19 pounds, 14 ounces on the final day of the Toyota Series Presented by Phoenix Boats Plains Division event on Grand Lake. With a 62-15 total, Breeden surpassed runner-up Jake Lawrence of Buchanana, Tennessee, by more than 6 pounds to earn his first win at the Toyota Series level. The win qualified Breeden for this fall’s Toyota Series Championship, and earned him $37,965 in cash and contingency money.
