SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) — A local nonprofit is helping families with back-to-school essentials.

The faith-based Brightside Project is filling backpacks with school supplies, and they’re available to all students in Columbiana County and rural Mahoning County.

Families in the Salem school district can sign up for clothing and shoe vouchers.

Signups will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Brightside’s offices, 483 East Perishing St., Salem. Participating families will need to bring two forms of residency and proof of birth for each child. Children do not have to be present to receive the voucher.

Backpacks will be distributed during Brightside’s regularly scheduled Food for Kids giveaway from 3 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 1 and Aug. 15 at its offices.
