ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — On Wednesday, high pressure will keep Southwest and Central Virginia mostly dry. However, warmer and more humid conditions are anticipated for the remainder of the week. Showers and storms are possible for the Fourth of July.

Wednesday will start with morning lows in the upper 50s and 60s. Warm and moist air from the south will result in hotter temperatures and increasing humidity. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead with temperatures rising into the middle/upper 80s and lower 90s. If you’re heading to the Salem Fair’s opening day, put on sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Stay cool as best as you can!

Prepare for a hot and humid Fourth of July! Morning temperatures will be in the 60s and lower 70s. By the afternoon, temperatures will warm up into the upper 80s and lower/middle 90s. The muggy air will make it feel a few degrees hotter.

A nearby disturbance may spark scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will see rain, but a few storms may become strong to severe. Not only do you want to stay cool and hydrated, but remain weather-aware as well. Strong storms may produce gusty winds, hail, and downpours.

The hot and unsettled pattern will persist into the weekend. Friday through Sunday, morning temperatures will generally be in the upper 60s and 70s while afternoon highs will be in the upper 80s and 90s.

Scattered hit-or-miss showers and storms are possible each day, especially during the afternoon and early evening. The heat will lead to increasing instability so a few strong storms may develop.

As of 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Beryl is a strong Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of up to 145 mph. The storm is expected to impact Jamaica during the day, bringing dangerous winds and storm surge. Beryl should start to weaken later in the week as wind shear increases.
