GREENFIELD — City of Greenfield and the Greenfield Union School District partnered with the Monterey County Health Department to offer free Narcan and fentanyl test strips to the community. Narcan can now be accessed via distribution boxes at four locations in Greenfield — no questions asked: Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Greenfield Fire Department, 380 Oak Ave. (located outside), available 24/7; Greenfield Community Science Workshop, 45 El Camino Real, Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Greenfield Union School District, Family Resource Center, 493 El Camino Real, Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Instructions and information on local resources are available at each distribution box. In 1957, Donna and Fred Hofsas built a quaint, four-story Bavarian-themed hotel in Carmel. Donna commissioned an artist friend, Maxine Albro, to paint a welcome mural, and Fred created a coat of arms, with the Latin words “Otium Cum Dignitate,” or “Leisure with Dignity.” It’s been family-run, with the Hofsas’ granddaughter, Carrie Theis, a former Carmel City councilmember, acting as general manager of the 38-room hotel since 2000.

CAL FIRE suspends all burn permits in 2 Central Coast counties
SALINAS, Calif. — CAL FIRE proclaimed that all burn permits will be suspended within San Benito County and the county of Monterey. This announcement was made Thursday due to the "extreme menace of destruction by fire to life, improved property or natural resources caused by critical fire weather and acute dryness of vegetation; and/or fire suppression forces being heavily committed to control fires."
