Kecksburg 'alien' hot dogs prove hard to swallow; Greensburg man downs competitors
A Greensburg man who has a stomach for quickly consuming hot dogs, beat 11 competitors Sunday at the Kecksburg UFO Festival’s Alien Hot Dog Eating Contest. The key to James David “J.D.” Gillis’s victory over 10 men and one woman was to break the hot dog and bun in half, dip it in water and then shove it in his mouth, he said after his four-minute sprint to gastronomy fame before a crowd of 50-some people at the Kecksburg Fire Department grounds.

PENNDOT: ROAD CLOSURE IN KITTANING, BRIDGE PROJECT TO START SOON IN RURAL VALLEY
PennDOT is also announcing a road closure in Kittanning for the demolition of a building. The closure will affect a portion of Market Street starting today through August 4th to allow for the safe demolition and removal of debris 206 Market Street. Motorists will use McKean Street, Jacob Street and Jefferson Street as detours.
BUSY SUMMER ROADWORK SCHEDULE ROLLS ON
A number of road and bridge projects are on the schedule for this week throughout the region. Nighttime resurfacing begins tomorrow on West Pike in White and Armstrong Townships. Milling and paving will be done between 8 PM and 6 AM nightly through August 3rd between Ben Franklin Road at the YMCA and the Route 422 intersection. One-lane traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
