SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — The San Angelo City Council has approved a task order for phase two of an ongoing boat ramp project at Lake Nasworthy, charting the course for a slew of new additions to the lake’s recreational facilities.
The City Council unanimously passed a motion of approval for the task order during its July 2 meeting.
The improvements come as part of “Boat Ramps Phase II,” the second part of a project funded by a voter-approved allocation of $6 million from the Lake Nasworthy Trust Fund and grant funding offered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The funding has already brought a fishing pier to Lake Nasworthy’s shores and purchased a boat capable of removing large amounts of unwanted vegetation from the water.
Three boat ramps, located on Knickerbocker Road, Beaty Road and South Concho Drive, were selected to receive updated designs for the first phase of the project. The City is currently awaiting funding from TPWD to begin construction for these ramp renovations.
Two new boat ramps, located at Red Bluff Circle and Fisherman’s Road, are slated to be installed on the lake during the second phase. Three non-motorized launches are also planned for North Pecan Creek, South Pecan Creek and Rock Slough Park.

The installations are expected to cost the City $62,500, which is the agreed-upon 25% of the phase’s $250,000 overall design. A TPWD boating access grant of $187,500 will cover the remainder of the expenses.
The Fisherman’s Road ramp is priced at $2.64 million, the Red Bluff Circle Ramp is priced at $947,000, and each motorized launch is priced at $200,000.
“This is really exciting because Lake Nasworthy is one of the great assets that we have here in San Angelo,” Mayor Brenda Gunter said. “To see this creativity, thinking outside the box, trying to bring more activity to the lake and make it more citizen-friendly with the trends in terms of what’s going on, I think is really exciting.”
With the City Council’s approval now secured, the designing process for phase two is now underway.
