    San Angelo man died while hiking at Grand Canyon

    SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — A man from San Angelo died on July 7 while at the Grand Canyon while on Bright Angel Trail.

    According to information provided by the National Park Service , bystanders initiated CPR on an unresponsive hiker around 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 while Xanterra Fire and Security along with NPS medical personnel responded to the area approximately 100 feet below the Bright Angel Trailhead on Bright Angel Trail. Attempts were made by personnel and bystanders to resuscitate the 50-year-old San Angelo man, however, it was unsuccessful.

    The individual “was attempting to reach the rim from an overnight stay at Havasupai Gardens,” NPS said.

    NPS is conducting an investigation in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
