SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — Just seven pets remain on the list of 20 dogs scheduled for euthanasia after the San Angelo Animal Shelter became overcrowded, according to Concho Valley PAWS. These dogs only have hours left to live, however.

In an update posted to social media at 9:50 a.m. on July 23, CVPAWS stated that the seven shelter pets would be euthanized by 6 p.m. the same day if not adopted or fostered. The remaining pets are as follows:

Their deadline was announced by the City of San Angelo’s Animal Services during the afternoon of July 17, when it stated that 20 dogs at the shelter were scheduled to be euthanized due to “exigent circumstances” that caused the location to exceed its 180-dog maximum capacity.

“The shelter must be under 180 dogs at all times,” the City said. “Adoptions, fosters and transports are urgently needed to help these at-risk animals avoid euthanasia.”

CVPAWS has worked to get the at-risk dogs adopted since the announcement, advertising the pets through social media throughout each day leading up to the scheduled time of euthanasia. The organization also waived adoption fees for the dogs, including those incurred by vaccinations, microchips and spay and neuter services. It offered a free in-home consultation as well as one month of group obedience class provided by dog training business Love N’ Leashes for adopters of at-risk pets as well.

Those who wish to adopt any of the remaining at-risk dogs are asked to info@cvpaws.org. Interested adopters may also visit the animal shelter from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to CVPAWS .
