SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — Another statute will soon be joining San Angelo’s Sheep Spectacular flock, according to Downtown San Angelo.
Downtown San Angelo stated that the unveiling ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, at the Capital Farm Credit office located at 1701 W. Loop 306.
“This was such a fun project to be a part of, and we cannot wait for our sheep to have a permanent spot in front of our new building,” Loan Administrator Kassidy Halfmann said.
The sheep statue, titled “Lending for ‘Ewe,'” will feature artwork painted by Ashley Perales, a local artist responsible for many of San Angelo’s murals and several other sheep statue designs scattered throughout the town.
“‘Lending for “Ewe”‘ celebrates the roots of Capital Farm Credit and the soul of West Texas in every brushstroke!” Downtown San Angelo said.
The announcement comes just 6 days after another sheep statue named “Sonny” was unveiled at the Sunset Mall. This statue was also painted by Perales, who described her work on the installation as “a postcard to welcome people to our mall, to our city.”
The Sheep Spectacular is an ongoing art project consisting of over 150 sheep statues that was started in 2007 as “a tribute to the burgeoning sheep industry that has been crucial to the growth of San Angelo over the years,” according to the Downtown San Angelo website . Local businesses and organizations can sponsor a sheep statue to have a design put on it by an artist and have it placed on either the sponsor’s or the City’s property.
