Before the season gets underway, what's the first guess on what the 2024 Valero Alamo Bowl might be? Why did we make this call, who else should be in the mix, and what's the history of the bowl?

Saturday, December 28 7:30, ABC Alamodome, San Antonio, TX Bowl Affiliations : Big 12, Former Pac-12 Last Season: Arizona 38, Oklahoma 24 Preseason Bowl Projection (with predicted final regular season records) Oklahoma State (9-3) vs USC (9-3)
Why this is the preseason Valero Alamo Bowl Projection
It’s always one of the better bowls for the Big 12, and this year it’ll be against a former Pac-12 program.
That opens this up a bit.
The loser of the Big 12 Championship will be hit-or-miss to get into the new expanded College Football Playoff, so it will probably be the league’s second or third-best team that gets in.
The former Pac-12 team is a little bit more difficult. It almost certainly won’t be Washington State or Oregon State, and it won’t be one of the new Big 12 teams from the old Pac-12 - Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah could be here, but from the Big 12.
That leaves USC, Washington, Oregon, or UCLA. USC makes the most sense.
5 teams also in the mix for the Valero Alamo Bowl
