The National Weather Service is forecasting a hot and sunny Sunday in San Diego County, with an excessive heat warning for the valleys and deserts.

“Warm near the coast today and hot again in the valleys, mountains and deserts,” the agency said. “A moisture surge will bring higher humidity and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily over the mountains and deserts.”

Highs Sunday will be 75 to 80 near the coast, 83 to 87 inland, 86 to 90 in the western valleys, 92 to 97 near the foothills, 89 to 99 in the mountains and 109 to 113 in the deserts.

The excessive heat warning is in effect for the valleys and deserts until 8 p.m., and will continue in the deserts through Thursday.

The weather service said temperatures west of the mountains will fall a couple degrees each

day through Thursday as the marine layer increases.
