Two San Diegans Receive Prestigious Awards From Cal Poly’s College of Engineering

Two students from San Diego received a pair of prestigious awards from California Polytechnic State University’s College of Engineering this month, in a ceremony celebrating its outstanding graduating seniors.

Biological engineering student Emma Caringella received the university’s Service to the Community award, which is intended for students who perform community service and academically-related service outside of what is academically required.

Adam Khan, a mechanical engineering major, received an Academic Excellence Award, granted to students with high grade point averages who have also participated in special projects or research.

Khan, who was a design lead with Cal Poly Racing, described the award as an “extreme honor.”

“My parents are super proud of my academic accomplishments and my friends are also very supportive of my work ethic and determination it took to get here,” he said.

“It is something I have worked towards through my entire college career and by receiving this award, I feel like my hard work and long nights have paid off!”

Khan added that he plans to work in the automotive and aerospace fields as he decide what he wants to do next.

“If the opportunity and interest for higher education presents itself, that is something I would consider down the line,” he said.

According to the university, only five students in total from the entire College of Engineering graduating class received an award of this caliber.
