Former Aztec tennis player Hendrik Jebens, joined by doubles partner Constantin Frantzen, posted an upset victory Saturday to advance at Wimbledon.

They advanced to the third round in London, after taking out the second-seeded doubles team of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, winners at the Australian Open.

Jebens and Frantzen won 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in an 1:18 match. Now have reached the Round of 16, they will face Lloyd Glasspool and Jean-Julien Rojer on Monday.

The No. 58-ranked doubles player in the world, Jebens, 28, along with Frantzen, ranked just behind him, prevailed Wednesday in the first round over Pavel Kotov and Cristian Rodriguez, winning in straight sets.

Jebens began 2023 ranked 136th in doubles, and finished the year ranked 63rd, at the time a career high.

Jebens improved his ranking by winning seven challenger-level ATP tournaments (three in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and France) as well as making it to the finals of the ATP 250 in Metz, France in November.

The native of Stuttgart, Germany spent three seasons with the Former San Diego State tennis team, through 2016. He made the All-Mountain West singles team in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
