SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A bicyclist was hit by a pickup truck and killed on a Carmel Mountain Ranch street Wednesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP officials said the male bicyclist was heading westbound on state Route 56/Ted Williams Parkway at around 9:25 a.m. when he was hit by a Dodge Ram truck.

The bicyclist, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital for treatment of major injuries but died after arrival.

According to CHP officials, the truck’s 33-year-old driver remained at the scene and spoke to investigators.

“A toxicology report is pending to determine if alcohol/and or drugs were a factor in this crash,” officials stated.

Due to the collision, a stretch of westbound SR-56 in the immediate area was shut down for at least one hour.

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to call the CHP San Diego Area at 858-293-6000.
