Bicyclist riding on SR-56 killed in crash

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A bicyclist riding on state Route 56 was hit and killed by a vehicle in a crash Wednesday, authorities said.

The collision involving the bicyclist and Dodge Ram pickup truck occurred around 9:25 a.m. on SR-56 (Ted Williams Parkway) westbound over Interstate 15, Salvador Castro with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The unidentified bicyclist was taken to a hospital, where he died from his major injuries, CHP confirmed.

The driver of the Dodge, a 33-year-old San Diego man, stayed at the location and cooperated with law enforcement.

It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the crash.

State Route 56 westbound over Interstate 15 was shut down during the investigation.
