Girl Scouts San Diego is now offering day camp and sleepaway camp opportunities to Girl Scouts living in San Diego County. Over 1,800 campers will participate in 180-plus Girl Scout Summer Camp programs, and registration is still open.
Girl Scout day camps are available to girls in grades K-12, with individual sessions having varying age requirements. On-site day camps will take place at the Girl Scouts Balboa Campus and the Escondido Program Center.
Girl Scouts offers several on-site day camp programs, each featuring a diverse variety of activities and learning opportunities. For instance, Creative Crafters Camp focuses on arts and crafts; campers will learn how to paint, sculpt, and even create their own jewelry. Meanwhile, Under The Sea Camp educates participants about marine life and coral reefs. At the Escondido Program Center, the Technology Goddesses Camp will teach campers about online communication, artificial intelligence, and more.
Girl Scouts also offers off-site day camp programs. The H2Oh Yeah! Camp will be held at the YMCA Aquatic Park in Carlsbad where campers will engage in a variety of water sports and activities, including but not limited to kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Sweetwater Farms in Bonita will also host Girl Scouts who will learn how to care for and ride horses.
For campers who prefer to venture farther from home, Girls Scouts also offers several sleepaway camp programs. Sleepaway camp participants must be in grades 2-12 and will be grouped by age. All sleepaway camp programs are held at Camp Whispering Oaks and Camp Winacka in Julian, CA, just outside San Diego. Like their day camps, Girl Scouts offers a variety of sleepaway camp programs to encourage campers to explore different interests.
Brownies (grades 2-3) can choose between one of four programs at Camp Whispering Oaks and two at Camp Winacka, Juniors (grades 4-5) are offered five programs at Whispering Oaks and five at Winacka, Cadettes grades (6-8) can participate in one of nine programs at Whispering Oaks and eight at Winacka, and Teens (grades 9-12) are offered five programs at Whispering Oaks and five at Winacka.
Teens are also encouraged to take on leadership roles at Girl Scout Summer Camp. At day camp, teens can be either Camp Aides (grades 7-12) or Counselors in Training (grades 9-12). At sleepaway camp, teens can become Leaders in Training (grades 8-10) or Counselors in Training (ages 15-17), provided they meet prerequisites.
To register for a Girl Scout Summer Camp program, visit sdgirlscouts.org/camp. Girl Scouts ensures that their camps are accessible to everyone by offering three tiers of financial aid. Additionally, Girl Scouts who sold over 1,000 cookie packages during this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program (Jan. 28-Mar. 10) are eligible for a free, five-day session at sleepaway or day camp.
Girl Scout Summer Camp not only provides campers with an exciting and dynamic summer experience, but it also offers activities that foster girls’ leadership skills, in alignment with Girl Scouts’ mission. Campers will explore new interests and build new friendships, all while connecting with nature and taking a break from the pressures of daily life.
