UC San Diego Health as made the Honor Roll in U.S. News and World Report’s annual survey of the nation’s best hospitals.

The designation places its La Jolla and Hillcrest hospitals among those that offer the best care in the country, a first for a health care system in San Diego County.

“Being named to the national ‘Honor Roll’ for the second consecutive year and No. 1 in the region for the fifth consecutive year underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care,” said Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health.

In addition, the survey ranked UC San Diego Health among the nation’s best in 11 adult medical and surgical specialties — also more than any hospital system in San Diego — in the 2024-25 edition.

Those specialities include pulmonology and lung surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and geriatrics.

As far as California, UC San Diego Health tied for first with Cedars Sinai and UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, and UCSF Health and Stanford Health Care in Northern California. The four other hospitals joined UCSD on the national Honor Roll.

Scripps La Jolla Hospitals placed sixth in the state and Sharp Memorial Hospital tied for 13th. Kaiser Permanente’s San Diego Medical Center and Zion complex tied for 23rd.

The 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report survey evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions, with only 3% earning top-50 rankings.
