SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday night in a collision on one of Pacific Beach’s main roads, San Diego police said.

The crash was reported just after 6:30 p.m. According to SDPD, the motorcyclist, identified as a 22-year-old man, was riding his 2007 Suzuki bike eastbound on Grand Avenue in heavy traffic when he broadsided another vehicle turning southbound at the Kendall Street intersection.

The other vehicle, a 2020 Jeep Cherokee that was coming from the westbound lanes of Grand Avenue, had a “clear intersection and stopped traffic” as they initiated the turn onto southbound Kendall Street, SDPD said.

As the Cherokee turned, the motorcyclist entered the designated bicycle lane in attempt to bypass the traffic, leading to the collision.

The motorcyclist sustained a fracture to the left tibia and fibula, SDPD said. The injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time. The driver of the Cherokee, a 33-year-old man, was uninjured.

SDPD’s Traffic Division responded to the scene and is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
