When the Padres acquired Dylan Cease this offseason from the White Sox, the hope was that the right-hander would be the ace San Diego needed to win a World Series.

That talent was on full display July 25 against the Nationals.

Cease threw his first career no-hitter on Thursday afternoon, shutting out the Nationals in the nation's capital. The Padres hurler struck out nine batters while walking three batters in a 3-0 win for San Diego. He needed 114 pitches to complete the feat, setting his new season-high for a pitch count in the process.
