SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Firefighters on Sunday rescued an elderly woman from a house fire that spread to a nearby home.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department received calls for a house fire in the 6000 block of Pinecrest Avenue in San Diego just after 6 p.m. Sunday.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from a duplex and were notified a person was trapped inside.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Laughlin told FOX 5/KUSI crews were able to enter the home through a window and rescued an elderly woman who was not able to get out on her own. She was treated for minor smoke inhalation and was taken to a local hospital.

That home was destroyed in the fire, which also spread to an adjacent home, Chief Laughlin said, displacing a family of three. There were no additional injuries reported.

More than two dozen firefighters were able to put out the fire Sunday evening. Firefighters say the fire started when a car parked in front of the duplex caught fire and spread to the nearby homes.
