San Diego County Heat Wave Continues This Week with Some Relief on the Way

Extreme heat will continue in inland San Diego County this week, with highs potentially hitting 120 degrees in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.
An excessive heat warning remained in effect for desert areas until at least 9 p.m. Thursday, the NWS said.
Highs Tuesday in San Diego County will be 75 to 80 near the coast, 83 to 87 inland, 86 to 91 in the western valleys, 99 to 104 near the foothills, 98 to 108 in the mountains and around 119 in the deserts.
From the coast to the mountains, temperatures will rise through Tuesday, remain relatively stable on Wednesday and experience slight cooling on Thursday, forecasters said.
San Diego County officials advised people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, avoid the sun and check on relatives and neighbors during the heatwave.
Officials also recommend keeping pets indoors if it’s cooler inside, exercising them in the early morning or evening, ensure they have access to cool water and keep them in shaded areas outside. Additionally, avoid taking pets on car trips without air conditioning, walking them on hot pavement and consider letting them use a child’s wading pool.
Relief from the extreme temperatures will start towards the end of the week for Southern California as a weak low-pressure system moves off the California Bight.
By Friday and continuing through the weekend, it will not be as hot, with a gradual increase in monsoonal moisture bringing a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms to the mountains. Coastal low clouds will extend into parts of the western valleys during the late night and morning hours. The best chance for shower activity appears to be on Saturday, the NWS said.
