Intense heat will continue for inland San Diego County through the week with monsoonal moisture expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms over the mountains on Tuesday afternoon.

Highs Tuesday are forecast to be 71 to 75 near the coast, 76 to 79 inland, 78 to 82 in the western valleys, 86 to 91 near the foothills, 88 to 98 in the mountains and 109 to 113 in the deserts, according to the National Weather Service.

After some drier days, the monsoon moisture and chances of thunderstorms return toward the end of the week, particularly in the mountains and deserts, the NWS said.

Temperatures will be near normal, climbing to above seasonal normals the second half of the week, according to meteorologists. Coastal low clouds will continue nights and mornings.

Dangerous ocean swimming conditions and increased risk of rip currents in San Diego coastal areas are predicted for Tuesday morning through Thursday evening. The surf will gradually decrease Thursday through the weekend, the NWS said.
