Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said fire crews responded to the 1500 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday. The building was evacuated due to the intense flames in the attic, Prange said.

LAFD Public Information Officer Adam VanGerpen tells KNX News' Karen Adams that over 100 firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 120 minutes before bringing it under control.

Thankfully, no civilian injuries were reported. However, four firefighters suffered heat-related injuries during the operation. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital, with reports indicating they were in stable condition.

Though Van Gerpen reported damage to the cafeteria and kitchen, he said crews were able to save a significant portion of the church.

The LAFD will remain on scene for several hours to conduct a thorough overhaul and prevent potential flare-ups. Road closures are expected on Glen Oaks for several hours as well.
