What Warriors' play-in picture looks like after close of regular season

The regular season is over. The Golden State Warriors are heading to the play-in tournament, for a Tuesday appointment with the Sacramento Kings.

The Warriors' 123-116 win over the Utah Jazz was irrelevant thanks to a couple massive wins from the Los Angeles Lakers win over the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Sacramento Kings win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Lakers and Pelicans (who could have avoided the play-in with a win) will meet again in New Orleans on Tuesday for the 7/8 game, the winner of whom will face the No. 2 seed Denver Nuggets.

Golden State got rest for Stephen Curry and Draymond Green going into this game, and all of its remaining key players in the second half, once the Lakers and Kings results became clear. The other positive from the win is that it cemented a winning home record at Chase Center (21-20). It's not meaningful, but the alternative is embarrassing.

The result of Sunday's final games is that the Warriors are the 10th seed and will have to head to Sacramento for a chance to earn another chance to win in either New Orleans or Los Angeles on Friday.

If there's any bright side to the Warriors' failure to make it to the 8th seed (thanks to their loss to the Pelicans), it's that they will not face the Denver Nuggets in the first round, if they get there. It would be the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder.

But that's two wins away from being possible. Now the Warriors prepare for a Sacramento play-in that will be rife with memories from last postseason.
