Golden State Warriors guard Chris Paul is one of the most accomplished players currently playing in the NBA. As such, he is also one of the league's top-earning athletes.

However, before CP3 became who he is today, he was like any other aspiring kid who wanted to make it big in the big league. Like most of them, he began his NBA journey from scratch.

During an interview for Forbes , Paul talked about his humble beginnings and what he bought when he got his first NBA check.

"I had $151 in my bank account when I declared for the NBA Draft," admitted Paul. "And I declared for the Draft and my financial advisor who we hired, they said they would send me $100,000, and my parents said 'No, that's too much,' so they sent me $25,000."

    CP and Jada went shopping

So Paul took his then-girlfriend and now wife to Haynes Mall, and the two went shopping at a store called Style Setter. Chris and Jada bought everything they wanted, and after that, they had a meal at TGI Fridays with one of CP3's friends and his partner.

But when Paul's first check from his rookie salary came, he said that the first thing he bought for himself was a car. And because he knew nothing much about automobiles back then, he bought a 750 BMW Li because the German brand was the only one he was familiar with.

"That was the nicest car in the world to me cuz my dad had a BMW, my dad had like a Series 3, so I was like, at that time, I didn't know nothing about Mercedes, I ain't know nothing about Maybachs, ain't know nothing about none of that stuff so I just said that a BMW is the nicest car to me, so give me the nicest one I can get," added Paul.

CP3 helped an ex-teammate buy his first car

Buying a car is almost always the first thing that a player wants to do when he makes it to the NBA. But not everyone makes it to the big league with a big check, as Chris did. So in 2018, Paul helped then-Rockets teammate Gary Clark, who was on a two-way contract, buy his first Mercedes.

“He helped me get a car,” Clark said . “He talked to my people and they figured it all out and all the logistics. He knew I was trying to get a car and get everything situated. He talked to my financial agent, my agent. They surprised me with it (Friday). They didn’t keep me in the loop. I’m usually on top of everything. He played a big part in helping my team get it.”

CP3 is considered one of the best point guards to ever play the game. Paul is No.5 all-time in the NBA in career assists, but more importantly, he knows how to give an assist in real life. That's probably why Chris has been blessed with a long NBA career, $389 million in career earnings, and one of the most impressive car collections in the NBA.
