Warriors to sign De'Anthony Melton to 1-year deal on full mid-level exception [report]

The Warriors have spent their full, nontaxpayer mid-level exception on De'Anthony Melton, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

It's a one-year, $12.8 million deal that brings the Warriors a decent shooting guard with defensive upside. It's a signing which means the Warriors cannot spend anything other than their bi-annual exception of $4.67 million, and veteran/minimum contract exceptions. Melton will be the team's only major free agency move, though trade talks are looming on multiple fronts.

Melton, 26, dealt with a back injury last season and missed 44 games for the Philadelphia 76ers, where he spent the last two seasons. He was drafted 46th overall by the Suns in 2016, then spent three years with Memphis.

A career 36.9 percent 3-point shooter, he shot 36 percent from deep last season, averaging 11 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

While he is not a light's-out shooter, Melton's defensive presence will be a much-welcomed addition for the Warriors. He's also a very movable trade deadline piece should things go sideways, though mentioning that on the day he's signed is a glass half-empty view.
