SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco is opening all public pools on Wednesday with free admission to help residents cool off during a sweltering heat wave. “All nine public pools will be open to anyone at no cost,” SF Recreation & Parks officials wrote.

“It's important that residents, especially seniors and families with young children, know that there are resources to help them keep cool during excessive heat,” said Rec and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg. “Our pools will be free for anyone looking to chill out on Wednesday.”

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the city from 11 a.m. Tuesday, through 7 p.m. Wednesday. Peak temperatures are forecast to range between the low 80s to the mid-90s.

Conversely, all city public pools and recreation facilities will be closed on the Fourth of July in observance of Independence Day.

The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management said it is closely monitoring the “extreme” heat wave. DEM officials wrote, “While the entire city is covered under the Heat Advisory, the areas predicted to be most at risk include urban heat island neighborhoods such as the Mission, Tenderloin, Mission Bay, Bayview, South of Market, Chinatown, and Treasure Island.”

    Hamilton Pool

This swimming facility features two indoor waterslides, the only waterslides in the city.

    Martin Luther King Jr. Pool

    Mission Community Pool

Mission Pool is the only city-operated outdoor pool.

    North Beach Pool

    Rossi Pool

    Sava Pool

Toasty temperatures will persist through this week and continue into the weekend.
