Warriors reportedly edged out two teams to land Buddy Hield

The dominoes haven't fallen in the Golden State Warriors' favor often to begin the 2024 NBA offseason.

Failing to strike a trade for Paul George and then watching Klay Thompson leave town immediately after is far from an ideal start. But the Warriors finally picked up an offseason win on Thursday, adding a coveted target in sharpshooter Buddy Hield.

As The Athletic reported , the sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers was expanded out to include a total of five teams. Golden State's contract offer to Hield and the deal worked out in the end, but the Warriors faced stiff competition in the pursuit of the 31-year-old.

Hield chose the Warriors over the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons reportedly because of the "opportunity to win," per The Athletic.

The Lakers have constantly pursued outside shooting help, and Hield fits that mold to perfection. He would have been a great fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but he should also be poised to thrive playing with Stephen Curry and Co.

Hield will join his fifth NBA team after beginning his career with the New Orleans Pelicans before being traded during his rookie campaign to the Sacramento Kings. He played six seasons with the Kings before being dealt to the Indiana Pacers during the 2021-22 season. After three years with Indiana, Hield was traded to the 76ers last season, playing 36 total games, including the postseason.

Hield's best season came in 2018-19 with the Kings, when he averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 45.8% from the field and a scorching 42.7% from three-point range. Throughout his career, Hield has shot 40% from beyond the arc over 632 regular-season games.
