The Golden State Warriors Are Prepared To Hand Stephen Curry A Blank Check

Amidst a hectic NBA Free Agency period, Stephen Curry remains the Golden State Warriors’ top priority. Curry has worn a Warriors’ jersey for the entirety of his 15-year career, and he, and the franchise, intend to keep it that way.

Curry, who is set to earn $59.6 million in the final year of his contract next season, is eligible to sign a one-year extension this summer worth $62.6 million. However, if he waits until next offseason, he will be eligible to sign a two-year, $130 million extension.

According to Warriors’ General Manager, Mike Dunleavy Jr., Curry can pretty much do whatever he wants:

"That guy (Curry) can get whatever he wants," Dunleavy Jr. said in a news conference Friday. Steph, I think I can say pretty confidently, that he will be a Warrior for life."

The Warriors and their four-time NBA Champion seem to be on the same page.

Earlier this week, Curry told Yahoo Sports' Vincent Goodwill that he "can clearly say I want to be a Warrior for life." He added, "I always want to win, plain and simple. There's no contentment on just cashing a check and playing basketball and riding it out.”

Following the departure of Klay Thompson this offseason, the Warriors have acquired Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield, and De’Anthony Melton in hopes to improve their defense and shooting.

These appear to be the first steps, of many, to convince Curry to stick around the Bay Area for the remainder of his career.
