San Francisco 49ers Star WR Brandon Aiyuk Requests Trade

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has requested a trade, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network .

The 49ers made it to the Super Bowl in 2024 but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. Although the San Francisco has one of the most talented rosters in football, they have failed to put it all together.

The Niners have an elite defense with talent at all three levels. However, they also bolster an extremely talented offense with great weapons and an innovative offensive-minded head coach in Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers have set up quarterback Brock Purdy for success. Purdy has the best running back in football in Christian McCaffrey plus a great set of receivers in Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Jauan Jennings, and rookie first-round pick Ricky Pearsall. Purdy also has one of the best tight ends in football, George Kittle.

However, the 49ers may be losing Purdy’s favorite target in Aiyuk.

Brandon Aiyuk requests trade

Aiyuk has requested a trade after failed attempts to reach a contract extension.

This has been a long time coming, as Aiyuk and the 49ers have been nowhere close to reaching a long-term deal. The 26-year-old has also been stirring drama and rumors about joining the Washington Commanders to play with his former college teammate Jayden Daniels.

Aiyuk is one of the best receivers in football.

In the 2023 season, he proved to be Purdy’s go-to target, hauling in 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in what was the best year of Aiyuk’s career to date.

While San Francisco seemed to plan for Aiyuk’s potential departure at some point by drafting Pearsall in the first round, it appears the Niners won’t move him even after the wide out’s request.

Adam Schefter has reported that other teams have reached out to the 49ers and have been told the club has no intention of moving Aiyuk.

This isn’t surprising, as San Francisco has used this tactic in previous years. Deebo Samuel and Robbie Gould are two players who requested a trade from the 49ers before reaching extensions to remain in the Bay.

That doesn’t mean this situation will end up the same way. The 49ers open training camp next week, and if Aiyuk doesn’t attend, it will only put more pressure on their front office.

Brandon Aiyuk knows his worth as one of the top pass-catchers in football, and with this trade request, he will likely end up with either a big extension from the 49ers or on a new team where he will get a big deal.
