Former NFL Star Sends 49ers Stern Warning Over Brandon Aiyuk

The biggest news heading into training camp for the San Francisco 49ers involves wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The former first-round pick is heading into the final season of his rookie contract and is seeking an extension.

To this point, those extension talks haven’t gotten very far. As a result, Brandon Aiyuk formally requested a trade earlier this week.

Throughout the offseason, trade rumors have swirled centered around Brandon Aiyuk. He has been linked to a few teams, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers being the most prominent.

Alas, trading him doesn’t seem to be in the 49ers’ plans. He can make a request all he wants, but unless the team wants to include him in a deal, he isn’t going anywhere.

With rookie first-round pick Ricky Pearsall currently on the non-football injury list, the likelihood of the 49ers trading Brandon Aiyuk went down even more. Those odds, from the sounds of it, weren’t very high to begin with.

There are a lot of people who agree with the 49ers not wanting to trade their budding star. One of those players is former NFL wide receiver turned analyst James Jones.

During a recent segment on Speak on FS1, Brandon Aiyuk was the topic of conversation. In Jones’s opinion, the 49ers need him to reach the goals that they have set for the organization.

“The Niners need Brandon Aiyuk to win a Super Bowl,” Jones said during the show.

Winning a Super Bowl is all that the 49ers care about currently. They have gotten close over the last few years, making four NFC Championship Games in the last five years.

In two of those games, they were victorious. They just had the horrible luck of running into Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in those contents, losing both.

To remain the top dog in the NFC, Jones believes that they need Brandon Aiyuk in the fold. 2024 could represent an all-in kind of season for the 49ers, who are going to have some difficult decisions to make in the coming offseason with Brock Purdy due an enormous raise.
