Logan Webb shined for the San Francisco Giants Wednesday night, as he pitched a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics at home.

Webb allowed zero earned runs on only five hits and gave up just a walk in nine innings of work. The 27-year-old Webb needed just 106 pitches to finish the game, nearly pulling off a “Maddux."

"That's the next one," Webb shared following his brilliant performance on the mound (via Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area ), referring to a rare feat where a pitcher completes a shutout in just under 100 pitches.

Webb’s sterling outing was a welcome sight for him and the Giants. He entered the Oakland game having allowed 15 earned runs on 25 hits across just 16.0 innings in his previous three starts.

“It’s a known thing I’ve been struggling a little bit, so I just wanted to go out there and get back to what I’m good at,” Webb said after the game, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ). “Today was a perfect example of that. (Catcher Patrick Bailey) called a great game and the defense was amazing behind me. It was an all-around great game.”

The Giants, who have won five of their last six games, improved to 54-56 and will next take on the Cincinnati Reds for a three-leg set that starts this coming Friday.
