The San Francisco 49ers' season opener with the New York Jets will be a huge occasion.

San Francisco opens the season on Monday Night Football, facing Aaron Rodgers in his first game since his Achilles injury in Week 1 last year, while also taking on their former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh in the 49ers' first meeting with him since he took over as head coach of the Jets.

Adding to what promises to be a great spectacle at Levi's Stadium will be the enshrinement into the 49ers Hall of Fame for arguably the greatest running back in franchise history.

The 49ers confirmed on Thursday that Frank Gore, the franchise's all-time rushing leader will be inducted into their Hall of Fame when San Francisco hosts New York in a primetime blockbuster .

Gore played 10 seasons of his 16-year career with the 49ers, who drafted him in the third round in 2005, his longevity belying the injury problems he endured in college at Miami.

He finished his career with a franchise record 11,073 rushing yards. Gore also holds the franchise record for rushing touchdowns (64).

The only running back in 49er history to rush for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons, a feat he achieved twice, Gore is one of the most beloved Niners of the modern era and deserves to have his incredible contribution to the franchise celebrated.

That will happen, the only question is whether the 49ers, along with their current superstar running back Christian McCaffrey , will be able to mark the occasion in style with a season-opening win.
