San Jose Sharks defenseman and restricted free agent Ty Emberson has filed for salary arbitration.

Emberson is one of 14 other RFAs who filed for a hearing. By doing so, Emberson and the other players can no longer negotiate contracts with other teams for a possible offer sheet.

While an offer sheet for Emberson might not have been a huge concern, Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas has been the subject of trade rumors and is a candidate to be given one.

Emberson was claimed from the New York Rangers off waivers prior to last season and showed that he can be a solid two-way, puck-moving defenseman.

New head coach Ryan Warsofsky worked closely with Emberson last season as an assistant coach. Warsofsky ran the defense and wasn't afraid to deploy the d-man.

In 30 games, Emberson averaged 18:33 time on ice, scored one goal, and had nine assists. Emberson dealt with multiple injuries throughout the season, which limited his game time.

Salary arbitration hearings will start on July 20 and run through Aug. 4. Emberson can continue negotiating with the Sharks for a possible extension before his hearing.
