SJ: Man Lying In Road Dies After Suv Runs Him Over Sunday

A pedestrian was run over and killed Sunday in San Jose, according to police.

Officers were called to the area of 11th and E. William streets at about 6:18 a.m. on a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Investigators determined that a man driving a Toyota Highlander was leaving an apartment complex driveway at a slow rate of speed when he drove over a man who was lying in the roadway. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and later died.

The driver of the SUV remained on the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, police said.

The identity of the man who died is being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin. This is the 27th traffic death in San Jose this year, police said.
